This jacket is a reinterpretation of the so-called "Vietnamese jackets," ordered as souvenirs by American soldiers who served in the Vietnam War from the late 1960s to the early 1970s. The Vietnamese jackets were not officially issued by the US military, but were custom-made by local tailors as personal items, and the embroidery on them is inscribed with memories of their unit, the land, and the emotions of the time. Rather than being worn on the battlefield, they were worn during off-duty time on base, when going out, or upon returning home, and after their service was over, they were cherished as a symbol of rebellion. BOW WOW takes this history into account and elevates the product by adding expressions of aging, as if it were a well-worn souvenir jacket imbued with culture and emotion.
